Uganda’s Rhino Uhuru, Gives Birth!

Just before a month ends when exciting news filled the top stories in world newspapers about the increase in the number of mountain gorillas in the wild, remarkable news was once again received by the Rhino Fund Uganda when they welcomed a newly born male rhino on 19th June. This is something worth celebrating once more especially as enthusiastic conservationists and nature lovers, a fact that the new member now adds their number to make a total of 23 individuals in Uganda today.  That said, we would like convey our thanks to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and the celebrated mum Uhuru-a name which denotes ‘independence’!

In a move to restock rhinos in the wild in Uganda, over 4 mature rhinos were imported from Kenya and they included 2 (two) males and 2 (two) females. Since their re-introduction in this area, the country has never been disappointed a fact that their population has kept on increasing something that is promising to tourists on safari in the pearl of Africa as they are now in position to make a complete list of the big five game.

The Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary sprawls approximately 176 kilometers away from Kampala just along the route that takes you to Murchison Falls National Park.
