There are only about 1000 mountain gorillas left in the whole world. Half of them live in the Virunga Mountains that straddle Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), while the other half live in the nearby Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda. Once hunted and pushed out of their dwindling habitat, the afro-montane forest is now heavily protected now a safer home to the gentle giants.
Mountain gorillas live in the wild, a little far from human reach. However, a few of family groups have been habituated and available for tracking by tourists and observed by small number of visitors of 8 tourists per group per day under the watchful eyes of park ranger guide.
